Fears!

I received an email a couple of months ago about 3 and a half year olds and fears and interestingly enough the fears started rolling in about that time.. He's now scared of Mudcats Games, Big Movies, Fireworks and Dogs and a few other things I'm probably not thinking about at the moment.

The Mudcats game all I can figure is that the fireworks show afterwards scared him, because he thoroughly enjoyed the game up until then..

Big Movies, that's an interesting one, we have been to see three or four movies since he was about 2. White Oak theatre offers two free movies every Tuesday and Wednesday during the summer, we decided to go and see Horton Hears a Who a couple of weeeks ago. We got in the theatre, got our popcorn and went to walk into see the movie and it was completely dark except for the running lights and he froze and started to scream. I waited a while to see if maybe he would want to stay once the movie actually started and he seemed a bit interested as we were standing in the outside aisle until the elephent screamed out, needless to say we got in our car and headed home!!

Fireworks, let me just tell you that you probably don't want to learn DURING a fireworks show that your child is scared of fireworks, I do believe the noise in our truck was louder than the actual fireworks!!

Dogs, this one happened when our friends little puppy innocently jumped on him, licked him and grabbed his hat off his head and ran. Now when we go around dogs, he promptly asks the owners to "Put doggy in fence" lol

He does not mind a bit letting you know that he's scared, he will say NO big movie, mudcat games or fireworks!! He also doesn't want any dog (2lbs or 100lbs) anywhere near him!

I hope, hope, hope that this is just a phase and that he doesn't continue to add to this list of fears... I have heard from a few reliable sources though that Daddy was a scaredy cat as a kid too ;)

Pullen Park

It's so cool to take Brandon to Pullen Park and for him to ride on the same rides that I did 20 some odd years ago, nostalgic much? He's been a few times now and refers to it as "the big park" and he really enjoys the "little" train and the "little" boats a lot. Frankie had not been to Pullen Park since our dating years (8+ years ago) and I think he enjoyed it as much as Brandon did, we took him this past Saturday and he rode the train (twice), the little boats and he "almost" rode the carosel (yea we stood in line til it started and he says "no ride horse, momma") Here are some pictures:

On the way there with his best buddy Curious George!

Supercala...what?!?

During the summer Grandma and Brandon have a few visitors a/k/a as cousins and friends that are out of school for the summer. These friends are taking major advantage of his booming vocabulary right now and I came home one day and my "just started talking" three and a half year old child says to me "Super Cala Fraga Listic Expi Ali Docious" and he was SO proud of himself, it's SUPER cute! I made a video of it of course!!

Go Carts!

Daddy has introduced Brandon to riding go carts! We first took him on our vacation week to Adventure Landing and let him ride, he fell in love! Mommy wasn't so sure he would like it with all the noise and stuff but he let me know right quickly that he LOVED it!! We have been back two more times since our first visit the first week of June and he begs to go on a regular basis. Here are a few pictures of the times that he has been:

Hair Cut

June 11, 2009 (I'm dating these because I am blogging to catch up from the last month or so..)

I've been bad and haven't updated our blog in a while and since then. Brandon got his first official "big boy" haircut, he decided that he did not want to get his haircut anymore but we talked him into the "tickle brush" and Daddy used the razor and cut his hair, I had a few tears in my eyes looking at my boy that went from looking like a baby to looking like a big boy in a matter of moments..

After:

Isn't it crazy how much difference a haircut can make?!?!?! He still says he doesn't want a haircut or to use the tickle brush again, but it's getting about that time...I'll update soon ;)

Golfing!

Brandon loves to play golf, this is another one of his habits he has picked up from his Daddy. We've been talking about taking him for a while now so yesterday Daddy, Mr Lewis and Mr Paul from Daddys work took him out to Cardinal Country Club and he "played" the whole 18 holes. Daddy said he really enjoyed everything from riding the cart, playing in the bunkers and just watching everyone play. After golf we had dinner with Aunt Kathy and Uncle Phil and then headed home, I attached a few picture that Daddy took (he's not the best photographer, but that's ok). Oh they also got rained on, but that didn't seem to bother Brandon at all or take away from his excitment!

Quirks, Routines, Etc

I figured since it's just an average Tuesday and we aren't doing anything special (well I was smart enough to make my yearly OB appt and a dentist appt for myself on the same day, ha ha!) that I would take time to talk about Brandons quirks, routines, etc. Here we go:

The newest thing that Brandon has to do is whenever anyone is leaving him, or he is leaving you.. you must get a hug, kiss and a high five! If you do not do this you may get a call from me to come back and do it because my child is standing at my door with tears because how dare you forget him! ;)

Let's see, oh yeah he also prefers to have his right sock off and his left sock on, not sure where this habit originated but he knows that when we leave the house he must have two socks on or two socks off...generally though as you can see from the pictures that he ends up with two socks on

Bedtime routine, this one is fun! We must take our bath with our certain toys and yes he knows when one is missing, after that we have to clean his ears, brush his teeth and Daddy and only Daddy blow drys and brushes his hair! Once that is done Mommy must put lotion on, dress him, fix a nice snack of popcorn and you guessed it chocolate milk and get his blanket, Lightning bear (his build a bear he made) and his Thomas pillow. Once this is complete it's about 10 minutes and he's snoring away blissfully. In fact I think I may take pictures of this routine and come back and add them here! This is a normal night and if we missed any parts and he wakes up at 3am for some reason he lets us know about it! I know, I know you are thinking OCD? but I don't stress it because I think it's a control thing that three year olds go through (like you are going to do this because this is how I like it!), because the rest of his day isn't nearly this structured and he goes with the flo. The only suggestion I have had is from his speech therapist and she said it's normal but just try and mix it up a little bit on him so that he knows it doesn't have to be the same every day.

I'm sure there are more that I am not thinking of right now, when I do think of them I'll update..

Mothers Day

Today is Mothers Day, this is my third (technically fourth) Mothers Day. We got up and hung out for a while and then Brandon and I met Uncle George and went to Bjs and Target and got things for dinner. When we got home Brandon and Daddy went fishing with Uncle Doug and Aunt Brenda and the kids, my baby told me he was going fishing in Daddys truck and I had to stop him in order to get a hug and a kiss! I think I have a little fisherman on my hands.. Fishing, golfing, I think he's the clone of his Daddy ;) When the boys left I took a bath in my new Bath&Body works stuff and enjoyed the peace and quiet (Happy mothers day to ME!)..

Apparently Brandon enjoyed this fishing trip as well (I got NO pics this time, although I packed the camera, thanks Honey!). He came back with one very dirty sock, i was told that he decided to put his foot in the water to chase the "baby fish" a/k/a minnows. This fishing trip ended the same way, after he got bored he beat the pole in the water and hung out with his cousins.

After everyone returned from fishing we had a nice dinner of Salsa chicken, rice and beans and played golf outside until nearly dark...it's now 8:55 pm and my tired little baby is snoring away and I won't be far behind him!

Brandons First Fishing Trip

Brandon is the son, nephew and grandson of many a great (or so they think) fisherman. Yesterday we went to Grandma Jeans house to put a dog pen up for her and Daddy decided to take Brandon for a late evening fishing trip. After going to a couple of different Walmarts and not finding a lightning mcqueen fishing pole, we bought a nice new spiderman one. Brandon, Daddy and Uncle Phil took off fishing as soon as we finished eating a nice Mothers Day meal with Grandma Jean. Daddy says that Brandon enjoyed fishing for the first half hour and then decided it was more fun to beat the water with his fishing pole, he did however say that he's good at reeling the fish in on his own (with a little help of course!), he caught two on his first trip! He's addicted now, I will explain more in my next blog =)

Introduction!

I wish that I had started this blog 3.5 years ago! But I am going to do a "quick" intro to us and then I will continue to keep this updated so I will have something to look back on.

Frankie and I met 13.5 years ago at a party of mutual friends, we went out riding around that night and the rest I guess you could say is history! We have been married 8years on August 4th.

We decided in early 2005 that it was time to add another member to our family, I was pregnant by March and was well overdue by December 6, 2005 when my precious baby boy, Brandon James Edwards, decided to join us at 9lbs 2oz, 20.5 inches long and 8 LONG days overdue!

Brandon was a good baby, despite the fact that he had multiple ear infections starting at 6 months old and ending around 14 months old, at which time we figured out that allergy medicine kept him from getting infections. Brandon started walking at 14 months, around Valentines day. However, the lasting effect of these ear infections is that his speech was severly delayed. I would need another blog to describe everything that we have been through due to this speech delay, we went through a major autism scared which has now officially been laid to rest. He is in speech therapy through our local school system and recieves half an hour of speech therapy two days per week.

Brandon loves to play golf, well any type of ball really but he's particular to golf. He loves hanging out with his older cousins and entertaining them as well!

I will come back and add some early pictures of Brandon to this entry, for now, get ready to follow us in our day to day ups and downs of raising a rambunctious, chocolate milk and popcorn addicted little boy =)
